Follow the lesson notes below.

This lesson is built as a practical setup checklist. Work through the steps on your Mac, then move to the next lesson when the setup feels repeatable.

Goal

Make the Mac recoverable before you personalize it.

Setup Order

  1. Sign in with the Apple Account that will actually own the Mac.
  2. Open System Settings, then run Software Update before installing extra apps.
  3. Turn on Find My Mac so the machine can be located or locked later.
  4. Turn on FileVault if this is a laptop or a family member's daily computer.
  5. Confirm the login password, Apple Account password, and recovery email are known.
  6. Pick one backup path: Time Machine, iCloud Drive for key folders, or another cloud backup you already trust.

Do Not Do Yet

Success Check

You should be able to answer: how do I find this Mac, how do I unlock it, how do I recover important files, and where are my daily documents backed up?
